Liverpool · 7-day

Add Hillside and West Lancs. A week on the most concentrated stretch of championship links in England.

Overview

The seven-day version of the Liverpool circuit adds Hillside and West Lancashire — two courses that extend what is already the finest stretch of links golf in England. A full week, a proper city, and golf that competes with anything in Scotland or Ireland.

Day 1: Arrival & Royal Liverpool (Hoylake)

Fly into Liverpool. Start immediately at Hoylake. Fourteen Opens, Tiger’s 2006 championship, and a links that is every bit as severe as its reputation.

Day 2: Formby Golf Club

Into the sandhills north of Hoylake. Formby is a private member’s club — the kind that doesn’t advertise. We arrange access.

Day 3: West Lancashire Golf Club

Founded in 1873. West Lancs sits between the Irish Sea and the Mersey estuary — flat, exposed, and infinitely trickier than it looks from the first tee.

Day 4: Hillside Golf Club

Next to Royal Birkdale. Arnold Palmer called Hillside the best course he had played in England outside of the Open venues. The back nine is exceptional.

Day 5: Royal Birkdale

The main event. Ten Opens, an outstanding course in all conditions, and the most testing finish on the Lancashire coast.

Day 6: Southport & Ainsdale / Free Day

A Ryder Cup venue from 1933 and 1937. A historic links with a warmth of welcome that the bigger courses sometimes miss. Or take the day off — Liverpool rewards exploration.

Day 7: Departure

Manchester or Liverpool airport. A week of golf you will not have to explain to anyone who plays.
